OUR NAME

Great Bridge West Ministries is an extension of the ministry of Great Bridge Church of God in Chesapeake, VA.  We are located in the Franklin/Southampton County area of Hampton Roads.  We are a part of the Church of God located in Cleveland, TN.  We are the first of the multiple campuses for GBCOG.  The Central Campus is lead by Senior Pastor, Randy Wooden.

CONCEPTION

Beginning in June 2005 a group of 15 adults met for the first time with Pastor Randy Wooden to begin discussing the possibility of planting a church in the Franklin/Southampton County area.  The monthly meetings offered opportunities to receive leadership development, mentoring, and dream about what Great Bridge West Ministries could offer the area.

PRE-NATAL

In January 2006, Great Bridge West Ministries began holding evening meetings at Grace Lutheran Church located in Southampton County.  During the evening services, we began building a strong foundation for a healthy church.  Much of our efforts of outreach were accomplished through inviting friends, families, and co-workers.  We also had events such as Friends Day, Kids Services, Vacation Bible School, and other events that would bring new families to our church. 

For one year, Pastor Randy continued to minister on Sunday evenings.  In January 2007, Pastor Randy and the GBCOG leadership set forth Matt and Nancy Kidd as Lead Pastor of Great Bridge West.

BIRTH

On May 6, 2007, Great Bridge West Ministries held their launch service at Southampton High School.  Through a large marketing effort to announce this service, God provided great fruit for the previous labors.  The opening service had over 100 in attendance, which included over 50 newcomers to our church.

The following week, GB West transitioned to meeting at Hunterdale School (our present location).  At this location, we have seen steady spiritual growth, numerical growth, kingdom growth, and ministry growth. 

WHY SHOULD YOU BE A PART OF OUR HISTORY?

This is an opportunity to be a part of a body of believers that are looking to turn others on to Jesus.  We are simply about Loving God with all our might and Loving People with the same love.  We are dreamers of what God can do through us to impact our area for His glory.  This ministry is not built on anyone’s personality, but on the desire of Jesus, that “none should die without Him”.  There is a place in history for you, here!
