Prayer - the Heartbeat of the Church

Prayer is the foundation of everything that the church is about. A praying church will be a life-transforming church.

Prayer is simply communication with God.  It is a dialogue between us and our Creator.  There are never any busy lines or call waiting.  There is never a dropped call.  We are never out of range of a signal.  God is always waiting for us to come to Him.  How often do we call Him?

For me, I know that I have not gone a day without taking the time to speak to my wife in over 11 years.  I couldn't imagine that.  I have never been out of range of having the ability to speak to her by phone or in person.  What is my point?

My point is, that with my wife, there is an intimacy that I desire to speak to her when I can, especially if I am out of town.  I love talking to her and hearing her voice.  I guess in short, my intimacy with her causes me to want to hear her voice.

You see, if we don't spend quality time with our Creator, then our intimacy with Him is not what He desires.  We serve an intimate God that desires to spend time with us and wants to talk to us and us to Him.  He wants fellowship and relationship.  Just as I would go out of my way to call my wife, I must go out of my way to call on my God and let Him know the love I have from Him.

How is this the heartbeat of the church?  If those in the church are spending quality time with God, then the life of the church will be one of worship, inspiration, and love.  Calling on God is more than give a laundry list of needs.

I challenge you to spend 10 minutes a day over the next 5 days just giving God praise and love.  See the difference it will make in your life.
